Castnet mesh sizes
Cast nets have different mesh sizes. Mesh size refers to the size of the holes in the net. The smaller holes allow you to catch smaller bait. Larger holes allow you to catch larger fish. Smaller mesh nets are more delicate as they target small bait fish. Larger mesh nets are more durable and hold up to fish like mullet and tilapia.
Typical mesh sizes are 3/16 sq. 1/4 sq. 3/8 sq. 1/2 sq. 5/8 sq. 3/4 sq. 1 in 1/8 sq. 1in 1/2 sq.
Cast nets can be referred to sq. (square) measurement or stretch measurement. The stretch measurement is twice the size.
For example a 1/4 sq. cast net is the same mesh size as a 1/2 stretch cast net.
